L'épirubicine est un médicament anthracycline utilisé pour la chimiothérapie. Il peut être utilisé en combinaison avec d'autres médicaments pour traiter le cancer du sein chez les patients qui ont subi une intervention chirurgicale pour enlever la tumeur. Il est commercialisé par Pfizer sous la dénomination commerciale Ellence aux États-Unis et Pharmorubicin ou Epirubicin Ebewe ailleurs.

Comme d'autres anthracyclines, l'épirubicine agit en intercalant les brins d'ADN. L'intercalation aboutit à une formation complexe qui inhibe la synthèse de l'ADN et de l'ARN. Il déclenche également le clivage de l'ADN par la topoisomérase II, entraînant des mécanismes qui conduisent à la mort cellulaire. La liaison aux membranes cellulaires et aux protéines plasmatiques peut être impliquée dans les effets cytotoxiques du composé. L'épirubicine génère également des radicaux libres qui causent des dommages aux cellules et à l'ADN.
